Our Drivers
We view our drivers as the primary representatives of our company, and we expect them to meet specific safety standards, and maintain a certain level of expectations as outlined in our employee handbooks.Driver Screening
Our current driver application, interview and selection process is designed to closely screen all applicants so we can find the best-matched candidates. In general, prior to an interview and completing an application, applicants must read a specific job description to determine if they can meet and perform the essential functions of the job. Completed applications are then screened and subject to reference checks, criminal background checks, driving record verification, and previous employment verification. Applications that appear to be a match are then scheduled for a confidential interview. Successful candidates must then be able to pass a company paid medical physical, a pre-hire drug test, as well as a stringent behind-the-wheel training program on equipment and procedural operations before being assigned to duty. All employees during their employment with Lamers are then subject to random drug and alcohol testing, annual criminal record checks, and driving record reviews to make sure they continue to be the best qualified employee for the job. Lamers is part of the DOTI network that notifies us if any driver has had a moving violation or change in their driving record status so we can make sure all drivers are valid, and are maintaining a good motor vehicle record. Drivers are also subject to regular ride-a-long performance evaluations as well as unannounced spot checks during the year.Driver Training
Lamers hires full-time year round trainers, driver support staff, as well as state certified CDL license examiners that work to teach, supervise, monitor and maintain consistent standards at all of our locations.Additional Instruction
Our employees are given additional instruction and training in the areas of blood-born pathogens, hazardous materials they may encounter in the work place, and training in how to effectively manage student behavior on school buses.Safety Meetings
Drivers are required to attend multiple safety meetings during the year to discuss areas of concern, as well as opportunities to hear from guest speakers on topics that are related to their jobs or the industry.Open and Honest Atmosphere
In addition, Lamers management team maintains an open door policy so our employees can discuss with management staff any labor issues or concerns they may have. We also offer monthly open forum meetings where management is available to hear suggestions from drivers and employees on issues that may be of concern to them, and together we discuss ways to solve problems or improve the workplace.Excellent Employee Rewards

Our Management and Office Support Teams have all started out by first being a school bus driver and then working their way to their present position. We believe strongly that management needs to be directly involved in the industry at all times. We require them to maintain and hold valid school bus licenses, as well as going out into the field regularly to do evaluations and assessments. All of our management, maintenance and office support staff are trained and are expected to be able to deal with the general public in a way to help assist any caller, school staff, or parent who may have questions, concerns or complaints in a helpful, friendly and professional manner.
